Millbrook pulls away from Clayton in second round.

Millbrook took the lead late in the first quarter after a 6-6 tie and maintained it for the rest of the game, ultimately defeating 13-seed Clayton 88-59 in a dominant performance.

The Wildcats have qualified for the third round for the sixth year in a row.

During the first period, Blake Bartney, Kyrie Heredia, and Alex Olander led the Millbrook offense, collectively scoring all seven field goals and contributing 14 of the team’s 16 points.

Millbrook added 16 more points in the period and went into halftime with a 32-19 lead.

Colt Langdon and Andrew Grimes, two promising prospects for 2025, dominated the second quarter by scoring points back and forth.

Langdon scored 11 points out of his total of 26 in the second quarter, while Grimes smoothly moved towards the basket and scored 7 of his 25 points in the first half.

Liberty commit Grimes contributed to the Comets narrowing their gap to only eight points in the third quarter. Grimes was perfect from the free throw line, making all six attempts, and scored 12 points in the quarter.

Millbrook maintained their strong lead throughout the third quarter by successfully converting 9 out of 10 free throws, ending the quarter with a score of 57-39.

In the final quarter, the Wildcats scored an impressive 31 points. A total of seven players contributed to this, with 9 points from Langdon, 8 from Evan Dean, and 4 from Bartney and Josh Conti.

Langdon scored 26 points, Bartney contributed 17 points, and Olander had 15 points.

In addition to Grimes’ 25 points, Anthony Walters was the sole Clayton player to score in double digits with 10 points.

On Tuesday evening, Millbrook and Panther Creek will face off in the third round of playoffs. This will be the third time in the past five seasons that the two schools have met in the playoffs. In 2020 and 2022, the Wildcats and Catamounts each won one of the previous two matches.
