Millbrook dominates No. 16 Cardinal Gibbons at the HSOT Jamboree
Millbrook wrapped up its 2024 preseason slate with an impressive scrimmage win over Cardinal Gibbons at the HighSchoolOT Jamboree. The Wildcats won 27-3. The game was played at Wake Forest High School.
Millbrook had an impressive first drive. The Wildcats’ new running back Brilison McCullers picked up multiple first downs. McCullers transferred from Sanderson in the offseason.
Later, Austin Battle threw a looping pass over the middle to Khalil Palmer to pick up a 3rd-and-20 to go. After that, a 16-yard run by McCullers set up the Wildcats with a 1st-and-goal from the 2-yard line. McCullers punched it in on the next play to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead with 17:30 left in the first half.
On Cardinal Gibbons’ first possession, the Crusaders went backwards to start and ultimately gained three yards. Gibbons had to punt on a 4th-and-7. Millbrook took over on its own 47-yard line.
Millbrook did not have as much success on its second drive, but the Wildcats landed a punt at the Gibbons 8-yard line.
The Crusaders had much more success on its next drive. Gannon Jones hired a pass over the middle to Connor McGeehan to pick up a first down at the Millbrook 38-yard line. On a 3rd-and-9, Jones hit Sam Dodd on a beautiful pass on a corner route to the Millbrook 19.
Jones later scrambled down to the 1-yard line of Millbrook, but Millbrook’s Quinton Cypher and Hunter Jackson combined for a big stop on third and fourth and goals.
Millbrook ran out the clock for the rest of the first half. It took a 7-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Jones was picked off by Nessiah McArthur, who returned the turnover to the 11-yard line of the Crusaders.
McCullers capitalized on the opportunity and scored from a yard out. That gave Millbrook a 14-0 lead with 15 minutes left in the second half.
On the ensuing possession, a Gibbons pass was tipped and picked off by Cypher, who returned it to the 4-yard line of the Crusaders.
Bobby Fulmore found the end zone from a few yards out to give the Wildcats a 21-0 lead with 11 minutes to go in the scrimmage.
Gibbons’ second string quarterback Connor Lindsey found Kendall Scotton for a 37-yard pass up the left sideline to the Millbrook 17-yard line.
Jackson made another big stop on a 3rd-and-goal to force a Gibbons field goal attempt.
Evan Windley made a 20-yard field goal for Gibbons with four minutes to go. That made the score 21-3.
Millbrook capped off its big night with a 47-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Bryson Gray to Justin Battle. That gave Millbrook a 27-3 lead with 10 seconds left.
The Wildcats’ Triston Tucker intercepted Gibbons on the final play.
