Marvin Jarman, a renowned figure in J.H. Rose’s athletic community, has passed away.

Marvin Jarman, a dedicated coach and advocate for J.H. Rose High School, passed away on Sunday morning after many years of service.

The official Twitter account of the J.H. Rose athletic department reported Jarman’s passing at approximately 9 a.m.

“We appreciate all those who have contacted us lately, but we would like to inform everyone that Marvin now has the prime spot for all sports events,” the school announced on Twitter.

Jarman, who was born in Colorado in 1947 and is currently 77 years old, was a regular presence at the Rampants’ sporting events. He had attended every J.H. Rose basketball game since 1966 and every football game since 1972. The only time he would miss a baseball game was if it overlapped with a playoff basketball game.

Jarman was most likely present at any J.H. Rose game.

During football games, baseball games, and basketball games, he was regularly spotted on the sidelines, in the dugout, and on the bench, respectively. However, for part of this season, coach James Rankins left his spot on the basketball bench unoccupied.

In April 2023, Jarman was present when Ronald Vincent, the longstanding coach of J.H. Rose’s baseball team, achieved his 1,000th win.

Jarman was recognized for his support of high school sports in Greenville, receiving the N.C. High School Athletic Association Special Person award. This award is given to individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to high school athletics in North Carolina.

During the 1990s, a road on the grounds of J.H. Rose High School was designated as Marvin Jarman Drive.

In 1969, Jarman graduated from J.H. Rose High School. During his time there, he was awarded the title of Mr. School Spirit, a characteristic that he carried with him for the rest of his life.

The school’s athletic department Twitter account has stated that plans have not been made public yet.
