A threat of thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, means there could be some schedule changes for high school football games on Friday night.

Week 2 games are slated to be held on Friday evening, with most kicking off at either 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.

Thunderstorms began forming early Friday afternoon and could last through the evening hours.

Much of the state of North Carolina is under a Level 1 risk for severe weather on Friday.

Just after 2 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service said storms will increase in coverage in the northern and central part of North Carolina. The main severe weather threat comes from isolated damaging wind gusts, but storms can also produce frequent lightning.

Lightning during football games means the possibility of schedule changes. When lighting can be seen or thunder heard, stadiums must be cleared. The suspension lasts for 30 minutes from the last visible lightning strike or clap of thunder.

Kickoff for the HighSchoolOT Game of the Week between No. 7 Grimsley and No. 1 Rolesville has been delayed until 7:45 PM.
