A player that is new to Mallard Creek High School’s football program has committed to Elon University, which has a Division I FCS program.

Chaz Knox announced his pledge to the Phoenix on his X account on Saturday night.

Knox previously attended A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, which is in Cabarrus County and north of Charlotte. Knox edited his X account to reflect his change in enrollment.

He is listed at 6-foot-1 and 283 pounds.

Knox was a two-time all-Greater Metro 4A Conference selection in his time at Brown. He was also a two-time all-conference selection in wrestling and was a state qualifier in the 285-pound weight class.

Elon was Knox’s first Division I offer. He was also offered by Johnson C. Smith University, Lafayette College, Lenoir-Rhyne, Cornell, Air Force, Navy, and Army.

Over his last two seasons on the Wonders’ varsity squad, Knox compiled 134 total tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, 13 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
