Joslyn Hamilton leads Rolesville to team title with 1-point win over Cuthbertson
Rolesville senior Joslyn Hamilton will have left her mark on the Rams’ track & field program when she graduates next month.
Hamilton won first place in three different events and ran the first leg of the 4×100 relay team that finished third. Her performance helped lead Rolesville to the team championship, narrowly beating out three-time reigning state champion Cuthbertson.
Rolesville finished the day with 63 points, Cuthbertson, which had won two straight 4A titles and a 3A title before that, finished second with 62 points.
Hamilton set a new meet record in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 41.10 seconds. The previous record of 41.41 was set by Clayton’s Keni Harrison in 2011. Hamilton’s time was 0.34 seconds faster than Marvin Ridge’s Aria Wegh who placed second with a time of 41.44.
Hamilton also won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.67 seconds and the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.57 seconds. Jordan Rochester finished third for Rolesville in the 100 meter hurdles.
The Rams had two third-place finishes in relay races. Hamilton and Rochester joined Ra’Keya Cofield Wade and Londyn Atkinson in the 4×100 relay and Atkinson, Rochester, and Wade joined Carsona Marshall in a third-place finish in the 4×200 meter relay.
Wade added a third-place finish in the 200 meter dash as well.
Cuthbertson dominated the longer runs, led by two first-place finishes from Charlotte Bell.
Bell broke her own state meet record in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:38.92 — over four seconds faster than her previous record of 4:43.27 set last year.
