Jorge scored two goals to lead (1) Hobbton to a victory over (4) Voyager in their 2022 rematch.
Henry Jorge scored two goals as Hobbton completed unfinished business in a significant manner on Thursday evening.
Last year, Voyager ended their season with a golden goal. This time, the Wildcats won with a 3-2 victory at home, eliminating the Vikings in the third round.
Jorge scored in the 22nd minute with a goal assisted by Mario Galeano.
Unfortunately, the lead did not last long when Caden Densmore scored a goal from a rebound off of a free kick taken by Tyler Hinshaw in the 28th minute.
The Wildcats maintained their score until Matthew Jurado scored a goal that secured their lead. In the second half, 12 minutes in, Jurado was in the perfect position to receive a corner kick from Hobbton. After the initial header, the senior captain was able to score, giving the team a 2-1 advantage that they held onto until the end.
After ten minutes, Jorge successfully scored from a set piece.
The Wildcats received a corner kick and the junior forward jumped up and scored his second goal of the night, increasing their lead to 3-1.
In the 75th minute, Carlos Green scored a goal for Voyager Academy, reducing their deficit to 3-2. However, this was the closest the Vikings would come to catching up.
Hobbton’s win advances them to the 1A eastern regional finals, where they will face North Moore on Tuesday. If they win, the Wildcats will move on to the state championship match next weekend. This is the first time that head coach Jonathan Jacobs has led a team to the regional final after several successful runs in the third round of the postseason.
The season for Voyager concludes with a record of 15 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie.
