Jones Senior bringing back 11-man football in 2025

After a year of 8-man football, Jones Senior High School plans to play 11-man again.

According to Brian North of WCTI, the school found its decision to play 8-man this season to be successful. The Trojans now have the confidence to play 11-man again.

Jones finished with a 2-6 mark in its lone season playing 8-man. When Jones Count Public Schools made the decision to drop to 8-man last offseason, the organization hoped it would be a temporary fix.

The confidence to return to 11-man is in big part due to the upcoming N.C. High School Athletic Association realignment into eight classifications.

With an average daily membership of 336 students this year, Jones will be a 1A school still. The difference is that the largest 1A school will have an average attendance of 383 students. Head coach Stephen Perry told North that they feel like they have a better chance of competing in 11-man with the new, smaller classification.

In the first draft of the new conferences, Jones was placed in a 1A/2A league with Northside-Pinetown as the only other 1A school and East Carteret, Lejeune, Pamlico County, and Southside as the 2As.
