Jamias Ferere scores 30 as West boys basketball team downs East in all-star game

The East never led in the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Boys Basketball Game on Monday night, and the West cruised to its third straight victory in the game.

Behind a 30-point performance by Southern Guilford’s Jamias Ferere, the West beat the East 108-92 at The Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

The was tied three times early, but the West pulled ahead before halftime, shooting 10% better from the field in the first half compared to the East.

The West led 49-39 at halftime, thanks to a late tip-in by Jucqarie Love of Southern Guilford.

Things got away from the East in the second half. The West led by double-digits the entire second half, with its largest lead of 27 points coming near the seven-minute mark.

Late in the game, the East was successful in chipping into the deficit using its defensive pressure. The East got within 13 points with just a few minutes left, but the hole was too deep to climb out of.

The West forced 22 turnovers in the game and scored on nearly every single one, totaling 36 points off turnovers compared to the East’s 17. The West also had a 62-51 advantage in the paint, a 24-15 advantage in second-chance points, and a 49-32 advantage in bench points.

Ferere’s 30-point performance led all scorers in the game. He also brought in five rebounds and recorded two assists, earning most valuable player honors.

In all, five players were in double-figures for the West. Jordan Lineberger of Hickory and Jonah Ridgill of Chatham Charter each scored 14 points, and Carson Daniel of Central Cabarrus and Jalen Chambers of Mooresville each scored 10 points.

The East was led by Randall King of Northern Nash who finished with 19 points and nine rebounds. His high school teammate, Izeal Mallory, posted 16 points.

Also in double-figures for the East was Isaiah Upchurch of Southern Lee with 15 points, Syncere Burnette of Wakefield with 12 points and nine rebounds, and Tequan Holley of Bertie with 10 points.

The West has now won three straight games over the East. Last year, the West won the game 111-86. With Monday’s win, the West now leads the series 39-36.
