In the initial 2024 girls basketball rankings, the top 10 is joined by four additional teams.

Alexander Central, East Burke, North Pitt, and Seaforth have all climbed up to the top 10 in HighSchoolOT’s initial statewide Top 25 girls basketball rankings for the beginning of the year.

East Burke and Alexander Central have not been defeated yet, unlike North Pitt and Seaforth who have only lost to other teams ranked in the Top 25 and a team from another state.

Charlotte Catholic fell from the third spot to tenth place following their defeat against North Pitt at The John Wall Holiday Invitational. Independence, Rolesville, Bishop McGuinness, and Northern Guilford also dropped out of the top 10 due to losses.

The poll for the entire state now includes a new team, North Mecklenburg.

There are significant variations in the HSOT’s rankings for area codes at the bottom.

These are some details about the methods used to determine our girls’ basketball rankings:

  • The rankings are revised and published every Monday on a weekly basis.

  • All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
  • The state’s six area codes have their own top 15 list, which is updated weekly.

  • The N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs cause a pause in the rankings.

  • The rankings are finalized and published the week following the state championships.
