Forward Taylor Hall, who the Carolina Hurricanes acquired as part of the original Mikko Rantanen trade in late January, signed a three-year extension with the franchise.
Hall, 33, came to Carolina from Chicago as part of a three-team deal with Colorado that also made Rantanen a Hurricane briefly. Hall scored 18 goals in 77 games for Chicago and Carolina.
“This team, right from the moment I got here, made me feel comfortable,” Hall said. “The coaching staff pushed me, and the guys in the room have been just incredible at making me feel welcome and making me feel like this is a place that I want to play.”
The extension is worth $9.5 million, the team announced.
“Taylor has proven to be an outstanding fit for our team, and we are thrilled that he is excited to make Raleigh his home for another three seasons,” Carolina general manager Eric Tulsky said. “He’s been a solid veteran presence in the locker room and a difference maker on the ice.”
Hall had two goals and four assists in the Hurricanes’ five-game series victory over New Jersey. Carolina, which defeated New Jersey 5-4 in double overtime on Tuesday night, will play the winner of Washington-Montreal in the second round. Washington leads the series 3-1 and Game 5 is Wednesday night.
Hall, a five-time All-Star, has played 15 seasons in the NHL with Edmonton, New Jersey, Arizona, Buffalo, Boston, Chicago and Carolina. Hall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft and the league MVP in 2018, has 284 career goals.
Carolina traded forwards Jack Drury and Martin Necas as part of the three-way deal that netted Hall and Rantanen. Rantanen was in early March to the Dallas Stars for forward Logan Stankoven and four draft picks, including two protected first-round picks.
Tickets for the Hurricanes’ second-round series go on sale Friday at noon. The schedule for the series hasn’t been set. Carolina won a league-high 31 games at home this season and went 3-0 against the Devils at the Lenovo Center.
