On Saturday, Virginia Tech beat North Carolina State 84-78 with Hunter Cattoor scoring 19 points and Sean Pedulla contributing 13 points and eight assists.

Pedulla’s 3-point shot put Virginia Tech ahead 56-54 with seven minutes remaining in the second half. This marked the 15th time the lead had changed, and it occurred during a streak of eight consecutive shots made by the Hokies. Cattoor also contributed with two 3-pointers, giving Virginia Tech a comfortable 70-58 lead.

Mohamed Diarra’s layup brought the Wolfpack to a 75-69 deficit with 1:37 left on the clock. Despite this, Virginia Tech’s successful 7 out of 8 free throws secured their victory.

Cattoor had a total of three successful 3-point shots and made 4 out of 8 shots in total, in addition to making 8 out of 10 free throws.

Lynn Kidd scored 14 points, Tyler Nickel had 12, and Robbie Beran had 11 for the Hokies (11-7, 3-4 ACC). Virginia Tech had a 53% shooting percentage and made 23 out of 28 free throws. Pedulla was responsible for eight of the Hokies’ 20 turnovers.

NC State (13-5, 5-2), which had been off to its best start in league play since the 1988-89 season, got 19 points from Casey Morsell, 16 from DJ Horne and 15 from Jayden Taylor. Morsell made 9 of 10 free throws and Taylor was 7 for 8 from the line. The Wolfpack made 20 of 24 free throws.

In the first half, there were nine instances where the team in the lead changed. The Wolfpack initially scored six points, giving them the largest lead of the half. However, Virginia Tech then went on an 8-0 run, taking their biggest lead of 23-16 with eight minutes left. From that point on, the Wolfpack was behind for all but one possession. Just before halftime, Breon Pass made a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 33-32.

On Tuesday, Virginia Tech will host Boston College. On Wednesday, Virginia will host NC State.
