Huffman scores twice as Middle Creek beats Athens Drive in flag football first round
Middle Creek’s Sienna Huffman scored two touchdowns on Thursday night as the Mustangs defeated Athens Drive 18-6 in the first round of the flag football state playoffs.
Huffman scored one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown in the second half to help Middle Creek take an 18-0 lead before Athens Drive scored a late touchdown to prevent the shutout.
The first score of the game came late in the first half when Adriana Armstrong intercepted an Athens Dive pass and returned it for a touchdown. The Mustangs led 6-0 at halftime after the extra-point attempt was unsuccessful.
With just under 13 minutes left in the second half, Huffman caught a pass from Mia Anderson and scored a touchdown after a long run. The Mustangs again failed to convert on the extra-point attempt, but led 12-0.
The dagger came with 2:26 left in the game when Huffman scored her second touchdown on a six-yard run to put Middle Creek up 18-0.
Athens Drive managed to score just before the end of the game. Kianna Gulley caught a long pass from Meredith Myers for the only Jaguars touchdown of the game.
Middle Creek advanced to the second round to face undefeated Willow Spring.
