How many days since UNC beat NC State? Kickoff time set for finale between rivals :: WRALSportsFan.com

NC State football coach Dave Doeren knows exactly how many days it has been since his program has lost to rival North Carolina.

The Tar Heels likely know the number, too, after Doeren’s post-game remarks last season.

The Wolfpack and Tar Heels will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, the ACC announced Monday. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.

NC State has won three consecutive games in the series, including a 39-20 victory in Raleigh in 2023.

“You know it’s been 1,460 days since those pieces of s*** beat us,” Doeren said to his players in the locker room after the game, a quip caught by ACC Network cameras.

UNC head coach Mack Brown later called the remark “classless.”

Doeren said he called Brown to apologize and offered his regrets publicly.

“Obviously, if I knew I was on camera, my language would not have been what it was,” Doeren said. “Does make it any better? No. I did call coach [Brown] and apologize because I could have used a lot of different words, obviously. They caught me in a heat-of-the-moment situation in the locker room celebrating a huge win, and I was fired up about how we played. I have respect for coach so the last thing I wanted for him to feel that, and again, it’s not an excuse, but it shouldn’t have been on TV.”

At the time of his remarks, it had been 1,131 days since the last UNC victory. It will be 1,502 days when the two teams kickoff in Chapel Hill.

In the teams’ last meeting in Chapel Hill, the Wolfpack beat UNC 30-27 in double overtime. NC State has won six of the last eight games in the rivalry and 12 of the last 17 meetings back to 2007. UNC won blowouts in 2019 and 2020.

NC State may need a victory in the game to secure bowl eligibility. NC State (5-5, 2-4) visits Georgia Tech (6-4, 4-3) on Saturday. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.

North Carolina (6-4, 3-3 in the ACC) visits Boston College (5-5, 2-4) on Saturday. The game kicks off at noon on The CW.
