High Point Central football coach Chuck Doak to retire after 30 years of coaching

A longtime coach in the Triad is set to retire at the end of this school year. High Point Central football coach Chuck Doak will retire at the conclusion of the school year. He is also the baseball coach and promised that he would complete the school year.

The opening with the football program will be the second time there has been a change at the top in three years. Doak originally arrived at the school in 2023 to be the defensive coordinator, but found himself in the head coach role after a late offseason change.

Doak started his coaching career in 1995. At the conclusion of his career, he will have been a coach for 30 years.

His career started at Lexington Middle School as an assistant coach. He became the head coach in 1998. In 1999, Doak moved up to Lexington High, where he was as assistant football coach, head track coach, and head baseball coach. He stayed at Lexington High until 2007.

In 2007, Doak became an assistant football coach at Southeast Guilford High. During the 2011-12 school year, he was an assistant football coach and head track coach at Eastern Guilford. In 2012-13, he had the same roles at Northwest Guilford.

From 2013-2020, Doak served as the defensive coordinator at Southwest Guilford High School. He became the head coach at Southwest Guilford in 2020. He had a 14-15 record as the head coach at Southwest.

High Point Central’s football program has struggled for a bit. The Bison haven’t had a winning season since 2014. In Doak’s two years at the helm, HPC finished 1-9 overall and then 0-10.

With an ADM of 1,193, High Point Central is projected to be a 5A team after the upcoming N.C. High School Athletic Association realignment.
