Hendersonville secures their 5th consecutive championship in girls’ tennis, defeating Research Triangle.
On Saturday, the girls tennis team from Hendersonville achieved their fifth consecutive victory in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A team state championship (fourth consecutive win in the dual-team category) at the Burlington Tennis Center.
Hendersonville won the third to sixth singles matches and the first doubles match after losing the first two singles matches, resulting in a 5-2 victory over Research Triangle.
Raleigh Prichard emerged victorious in the No. 3 singles match with a score of 6-3, 7-5 against Katherine Southern from Research Triangle. Reese Reddent followed with a win in the No. 4 singles match, defeating Natalia Stephens 6-3, 6-4.
In the fifth singles match, Anna MacDowell of Hendersonville emerged victorious over Kieran Patel in a third set with a score of 6-0, 4-6, (10-4). Following this, Sophia Gallian dominated the sixth singles match with a score of 6-0, 6-0 against Camila Conde.
Hendersonville secured their championship victory in the first doubles match when Eliza Perry and Ramsey Ross, despite losing in the singles portion of the match, joined forces to defeat Olivia Hankinson and Stephenson with a score of 8-2.
The Hendersonville girls tennis team participated in the dual-team championship for the sixth time this year. They have a 5-1 record in state championships and ended the season with a perfect 18-0 record.
The Research Triangle team has competed in two state championships for girls’ dual-team tennis and came in second place to Hendersonville on both occasions. In the 2021 championship, the Raptors were defeated by Hendersonville with a score of 5-1. The team ends the season with an impressive record of 17 wins and only 1 loss.
In 2020, Hendersonville was victorious in the individual team tournament, which was implemented as a replacement for the dual-team tournament due to the pandemic’s impact on the athletic schedule.

Singles:
Olivia Hankinson from Research Triangle beat Eliza Perry from Hendersonville with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
In the second match, Victoria Zhou from Research Triangle defeated Ramsey Ross from Hendersonville with a score of 6-4, 6-0.
In the third match, Raleigh Prichard from Hendersonville defeated Katherine Southern from Research Triangle with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
#4 – Reese Redden (Hendersonville) def. Natalia Stephens (Research Triangle), 6-3, 6-4
In the fifth round, Anna MacDowell from Hendersonville defeated Kieran Patel from Research Triangle with a score of 6-0, 4-6, and a decisive tiebreaker of 10-4.
Sophia Gallian from Hendersonville defeated Camila Conde from Research Triangle with a score of 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles:
Eliza Perry and Ramsey Ross from Hendersonville defeated Olivia Hankinson and Natalia Stephens from Research Triangle with a score of 8-2.
