Head coach Mark Holcomb departs Bishop McGuinness football program

Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School is on the search for a new head football coach.

A couple of years after hiring Mark Holcomb from Oak Grove High School, Holcomb has departed for another opportunity. He confirmed the news with HighSchoolOT today.

Holcomb led the Villains to back-to-back playoff appearances, finishing 6-6 and 6-5 overall. In 2024, the Villains went 3-4 in the Football Only 1A/2A Conference.

With an average daily membership of 477 students this school year, Bishop is set to become a 2A program following the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s expansion into eight classifications.

In the third draft of the new conferences for NCHSAA schools, the Villains were placed in a 1A/2A league with 1As Chatham Central, College Prep & Leadership Academy, North Stokes, and Winston-Salem Prep as well as fellow 2A South Stokes.
