Havelock, Northeastern lead HSOT’s preseason 252 area code rankings

HighSchoolOT has released its preseason rankings for the 252 area code early to HSOT Insiders.

HSOT has two sets of rankings: a statewide Top 25 and top 15s for each of North Carolina’s six area codes.

Our 252 area code consists of these counties: Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, Northampton, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Vance, Warren, Washington, and Wilson.

Havelock, a 3A school from Craven County, leads the preseason rankings for the 252. The Rams return 16 starters from last year’s fourth round team. They have three FBS-level prospects: South Carolina linebacker commit Donovan Darden, East Carolina wide receiver commit Johnny Williams, and star running back LeBron Sharpe. Havelock also added one of the state’s top returning passer via transfer. Jaylen Hewitt threw for 3,236 yards and 35 touchdowns for West Carteret last fall.

Northeastern, the favorite in the 2A East this season, comes in behind Havelock at No. 2. The rest of the top five is made up of two more 3A contenders in Vance County and Southern Nash, as well as 1A East favorite Tarboro.
