Grimsley 5-star QB Faizon Brandon chooses Tennessee over NC State
Arguably the top high school football player in North Carolina is headed to Tennessee.
Faizon Brandon, a rising junior at Grimsley High School, committed to the University of Tennessee in a ceremony held at his high school on Saturday afternoon. He chose the Vols out of a top four of Alabama, LSU, NC State, and Tennessee.
The quarterback is a highly touted prospect. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2026. On3 is similarly high on Brandon and has him slotted as the No. 11 prospect nationally. ESPN and Rivals are a tad lower on Brandon. ESPN has him ranked at No. 32 in the country, while Rivals has him slotted at No. 134. His average national ranking is 44.5.
Brandon collected 25 Division I offers during his recruitment process. The verbal offers came from (in order) East Carolina, Louisville, NC State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Charlotte, Duke, Tennessee, Florida State, Boston College, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Michigan, Alabama, LSU, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Georgia, Penn State, TCU, Ohio State, Oregon, Miami, and NC A&T.
He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds.
During his sophomore season at Grimsley, Brandon completed 191 of 277 passing attempts (69.0%) for 3,026 yards (216.1/game), 36 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. He also rushed for 528 yards and nine touchdowns on 85 carries. His performance landed him a selection on the HighSchoolOT All-State Football Team.
Grimsley finished its 2023 football season with a 13-1 overall record and reached the fourth round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 4A West playoffs. There, they lost on the road at eventual state champion Weddington.
