Gregory Fee leads West past East in all-star football game

One day after the N.C. High School Athletic Association football state championship games concluded, the N.C. Coaches Association held its East-West All-Star Game at Grimsley High School’s Jamieson Stadium.

Behind a two-touchdown performance from Weddington quarterback Gregory Fee, the West defeated the East 23-7 to claim the all-star win.

The West’s first points came in the first quarter when Rossi Santella of A.C. Reynolds connected on a 25-yard field goal. The successful attempt capped of an eight-play, 72-yard drive and gave the West a 3-0 lead, which held through the rest of the opening quarter.

Fee scored his first touchdown just 23 seconds into the second quarter. Fee scored on a 14-yard run and Santella connected on the extra-point attempt to push the lead to 10-0.

After a short East possession, Fee connected with East Forsyth’s Jaylin Murry for a 26-yard touchdown. The West led the East 17-0 at halftime.

The East broke the scoring drought on its first possession of the third quarter. Laney quarterback Kolbe Little completed a 19-yard pass to Jaidon Lovett of J.H. Rose to bring the East within 17-7. However, that was as close as the East got the rest of the way.

With a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter, the West put the exclamation point on its win early in the fourth. Hickory’s Isaiah Lackey scored on a four-yard run. The extra-point attempt failed, but the West’s lead was 16 points.

Neither team scored in the final minutes of the game, as the West claimed a 23-7 win.

Fee was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the game. The Weddington signal caller completed 17-of-31 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for a touchdown.

Watauga’s Maddox Greene was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player. Greene finished with four tackles.

The West finished with 314 yards of total offense, compared to 169 yards for the East.

The East-West All-Star Games will continue in July with the boys & girls basketball and boys & girls soccer games, which will take place during the annual coaches convention. Basketball will be played on July 21 at the Greensboro Coliseum’s Novant Health Field Hous. The soccer games will be played at Jamieson Stadium on July 22.
