Fulmore’s fourth quarter touchdown lifts Millbrook past Apex Friendship
Millbrook scored a fourth-quarter touchdown and used a late defensive stop to secure an opening night win over Apex Friendship on Friday night.
The Wildcats entered the fourth quarter trailing by three points, but left the stadium with a 17-13 win over Apex Friendship.
Bobby Fulmore scored the game-winning touchdown on a six-yard run in the fourth quarter. Angel Gomez added the extra point to give the Wildcats their four-point winning margin.
Apex Friendship’s last chance to answer was snatched away when Zaire Hines intercepted a pass late in the game.
Friday’s game was back-and-forth between the two teams. Millbrook opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal from Gomez, but Jaden Avery put the Patriots on top with a five-yard rushing touchdown. Apex Friendship led 6-3 after one quarter.
Brilison McCullers gave Millbrook the lead again in the second quarter when he found the end zone from the two-yard line, ut Avery scored a second touchdown before halftime where the Patriots led 13-10.
Neither team scored again until Fulmore’s game-winner in the fourth quarter.
Millbrook (1-0) is off next week but returns to action on Sept. 6 with a road non-conference game at Garner.
Apex Friendship (0-1) also returns to action on Sept. 6 after taking next week off. The Patriots will hit the road for a second straight game when they travel to Willow Spring.
