Union Pines put together a dominant performance in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A dual-team wrestling state championship on Saturday.

At the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse, the Vikings defeated Pisgah 47-17 to win their first dual-team title.

Union Pines scored the first 31 points in the match. That included two pins by Finnius McCafferty in the 157-pound weight class and Dantrell Williams in the 190-pound weight class.

The Vikings also claimed four wins by technical fall — Tripp Sullivan beat Levi Early in the 165-pound weight class 16-1, Dominic Blue beat Iker Ramirez in the 175-pound weight class 22-6, Keaton Crawford beat Kail Burnette 15-0 in the 126-pound weight class, and Joseph Lloyd beat Jacob Cruz-Reyes 16-0 in the 132-pound weight class.

Union Pines’ Brock Sullivan was named the Most Valuable Player of the state championship after winning the 215-pound weight class by a 4-2 decision.

Pisgah managed to collect two wins by pin — Christian Gibson pinned Caiden McDermott in the 113-pound weight class and Kane Bryson pinned Chris Schroth in the 120-pound weight class.

Union Pines had appeared in each of the last three state championships, but fell short to Fred T. Forad in 2022 and 2023, then lost to Eastern Guilford in 2024.

Saturday’s appearance in the state championship was the first since 2002 for Pisgah.
