Former Reagan, R.J. Reynolds player Shavon Revel drafted by the Dallas Cowboys
A Forsyth County native’s NFL dreams have come true.
The Dallas Cowboys selected East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. with the 12th pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. It was the 76th pick oveall.
Revel graduated from Reagan High School in Pfafftown, but he spent his first three high school years at R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem. He is the first former Reagan player to be drafted into the NFL.
As a junor at R.J. Reynolds, Revel posted an impressive season with over 500 yards rushing and over 500 yards receiving. At Reagan, he was a standout on both sides of the ball as well as in track season.
After some struggles with injuries in high school, Revel began his collegiate career at Louisburg College. He redshirted his freshman season and played six games in 2021. Revel transferred to ECU in December of 2021.
At East Carolina, he became one of the best players in the American Athletic Conference, earning second team honors in 2023.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound cornerback has an elite athletic profile, but his draft stock was diminished by an ACL tear that he suffered in a September 2024 practice. Prior to the injury, Revel was gaining steam as a possible first round selection.
