First Flight’s Morgan Miller repeats, North Lincoln’s team four-peats at 3A girls cross country championships
First Flight’s Morgan Miller is a cross country state champion again.
Miller successfully defender her title from last season at the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A girls cross country state championship at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville on Saturday.
With a time of 18:04.99, Miller’s time was about one second faster than last season and just over eight seconds faster than second place. Last year, Miller won the title with a time of 18:05.84.
Miller is the only runner from First Flight to win a girls cross country state title.
Georgy Helmers of E.E. Smith finished second in the individual standings. Helmers finished the race with a time of 18:13.19. She was followed by a pair of North Lincoln athletes — Olivia Ferraro finished third with a time of 18:18.51 and Bella Green placed fourth with a time of 18:53.35.
No other runners finished under the 19-minute mark on Saturday, but Swansboro’s Delaney Horton finished fifth wit ha time 19:00.02.
North Lincoln won its fourth straight 3A girls cross country state title on Saturday. The Knights finished the competition with 56 points, dominating the rest of the field.
Ferraro and Green led North Lincoln’s effort with their third and fourth place finishes. Cambelle Reffner finished 12th for the Knights, finishing with a time of 19:35.40. Ella Myers was 23rd with a time fo 20:02.44.
The next-best score came from First Flight, which was the runner-up in the team standings with a score of 125.
West Henderson placed third with 143 points, followed by Croatan and Lake Norman Charter with 174 and 180 points respectively.
