RALEIGH, N.C. — RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Filip Forsberg scored his third overtime goal of the season 35 seconds into the extra session to give the Nashville Predators a 6-5 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.

Nashville’s Predators managed to come back from being down by two goals, securing their sixth victory in seven games. Star player Forsberg scored his 16th goal of the season, leading the team to a 5-0 record in games that went into overtime.

On Tuesday night, Forsberg once again scored in overtime against Philadelphia. This time, he possessed the puck at Nashville’s blue line and skated towards the slot, ultimately taking the only overtime shot of the game for either team.

“I’m simply attempting to locate something,” stated Forsberg. “I don’t believe scoring (those) will hinder my chances of returning to the field.”

Nashville’s Roman Josi and Ryan O’Reilly both contributed one goal and two assists. Forsberg and Jusso Parssinen also had a goal and an assist each, while Tyson Barire and Jeremy Lauzon added to the scoresheet. Goalie Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves in total.

“It’s enjoyable to have a game like that every now and then,” stated Josi. “It seemed like both teams were playing more loosely. It was a fun way to come out with a win.”

Carolina’s Stefan Noesen and Martin Necas both contributed a goal and an assist to the game. Tony DeAngelo, Jalen Chatfield, and Sebastian Aho also scored, with Michael Bunting tallying two assists. Antti Raanta made 24 saves for the team. The Hurricanes played on the same night as their return from a 2-4 trip.

“We weren’t able to keep a tight grip on anything, and that’s what ultimately hurt us,” stated Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour. “I commend the guys for their efforts, but it was clear that we were slightly off our game.”

Lauzon scored his second goal of the season with 9:03 left in regulation, breaking a scoreless streak of over 20 minutes between the two teams.

“It was most likely quite entertaining to witness,” Forsberg commented on the combined offensive output of both teams. “The coaches may not have been as pleased.”

Andrew Burnette of Nashville was not bothered.

“The group’s resilience was impressive,” the coach remarked. “It’s always great to see them pushing back. Many teams would have given up, but we didn’t.”

In the second period, the teams scored a total of six goals within 6 and a half minutes. Shortly after the Predators tied the game, the Hurricanes quickly scored two goals in just 19 seconds, giving them a 4-2 lead.

“We believed that we were performing well in the game, despite being behind 4-2,” stated Josi.

Carolina’s first goal was scored by Tony DeAngelo, who had previously scored on November 7th this season. During the 10 games between these two goals, DeAngelo was not injured and did not play.

The Hurricanes were victorious in their initial four overtime matches of the season, but they have now suffered two consecutive losses, both on their home turf.
