Fairmont football to be led by experienced head coach Scott Loosemore
Fairmont High School has found its next head football coach. The program will be led by Scott Loosemore, who served as a head coach for 10 seasons earlier in his career. He was apporved by Public Schools of Robeson County this week.
The news was first reported by Chris Stiles of The Robesonian.
Loosemore was looking for another opportunity to be a head coach. He led Eastern Guilford form 2006-11 and Cedar Ridge from 2014-17. The 56-year old has a head coaching record of 53-71. His best season at Eastern Guilford came in 2008 when the Wildcats finished 7-5. His best season at Cedar Ridge was in 2016 when the Red Wolves finished 6-5.
According to Stiles, eight seasons of his 36-year coaching career were spent at the collegiate level. Loosemore coached at Elon, North Carolina A&T and Greensboro College.
Most recently, Loosemore served as the defensive coordinator at Scotland High School for the 2024 season. He helped the Scots reach the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A East playoffs. He was also the defensive coordinator at Scotland during 2018 and 2019. Loosemore spent the 2020-23 seasons as and assistant at West Brunswick.
Fairmont is coming off of an 0-10 overall finish and 0-5 Southeastern 2A finish in 2024. Loosemore is replacing Jeremy Carthen.
With an average daily membership of 796 students, Fairmont is set to become a 4A program once the NCHSAA realigns into eight classifications later this year. In the first draft of the new conferences, Fairmont was placed in a 3A/4A/5A league with 3As Trask, Pender, South Columbus, West Bladen, and Whiteville, fellow 4As Clinton and Red Springs, and 5A South Brunswick. The conference plans are subject to change following the appeals period.
Fairmont won the 1947 Class B state championship via forfeit. The Golden Tornadoes have not finished a season with a winning record since the 8-5 team under Mark Heil in 2016.
