Extra Effort Award: Molly Zuburg’s court vision sees the best in people
When you go to a Leesville Road High School girls basketball practice, you hear shouts of, “nice pass!”
Most of them come from senior point guard Molly Zuburg.
“I think I’m a pass first type of player. I think I love to shoot, but I love to get a good pass into one of my teammates just as much, and there’s nothing more exciting than having one of my teammates finish and getting all excited with them, I love it,” Zuburg said.
She’s talented, mulling over her options to play at the collegiate level.
“If you count Molly out, you’re really counting the wrong way,” Leesville Road High School girls basketball coach Chris Danehower said.
Her teammates count on her, that’s for sure, leader that elevates those around her.
“Somehow she gets people to trust her, she really relates to a lot of different kinds of kids, you see it around campus, not just with our team, but she’s friends with virtually just about everybody,” Danehower said.
Her court vision translates to people.
“I’ve watched her talk to so many different types of students, teachers, it doesn’t matter who she’s talking to, she really sees them, and I think that’s just a great quality for anyone to have,” Leesville Road High School english teacher Ashley Tabron said.
“I found it important to be inclusive of everyone and make sure that everyone knows how important and loved they are,” Zuburg said.
Sounds about right for a pass-first guard.
And that’s why Molly Zuburg is this week’s winner of the Tom Suiter Extra Effort Award.
