Extra Effort Award: Lannah Price pride for South Johnston reflected in her hard work
South Johnston gym’s is full of a cacophony of volleyballs meeting hardwood.
In the middle of that mix for the past four seasons, you’ll find Lannah Price.
“One of those student-athletes that’s rare. You kind of pick up on it really when they first walk onto campus,” athletics director and softball coach Ashley Ennis said.
“When you think about student-athlete, Lannah Price is the definition of that,” volleyball coach Matthew Adams said.
A senior that’s played more sports than you can count, although for the record, at South Johnston it includes volleyball, basketball and softball. She’s heading to VCU to play volleyball in the fall.
Price says there’s a lot of pride in this school and this community.
“We want to do well, we want to perform well in the classroom, we want to do well for our teachers, for our parents and everything. So I think the camaraderie with all the students is really special,” Price said.
And she would know. Price is just about everywhere at South Johnston. She’s senior class president, has a GPA above a 4.0 and volunteers with her church and with her teams. She cares about this community. That pride manifested in the form of a a volleyball conference championship for the first time since 1996.
“It meant a lot to me, it still means as lot to me, it’ll probably mean a lot to me for the rest of my life,” Price said. “That tangible thing in front of you, all my work has lead to this.”
And it’s been a lot of work.
“It wasn’t always easy, yes she can jump 30 inches off the ground,” Adams said, “Whatever it is she’s doing, but she’s also sacrificing a lot to be the player and the leader she is.”
And that’s why Lannah Price is this week’s winner of the Tom Suiter Extra Effort Award
