Ellie Garrison from Wheatmore is just nine goals shy of breaking the NCHSAA’s record for most goals in a career.
Ellie Garrison, a senior at Wheatmore, holds the record for the most goals in a single season in the N.C. High School Athletic Association.
She is now close to reaching her career milestone (with no intended wordplay).
Garrison, an Appalachian State recruit who ended last year with 96 goals in 24 games, has 217 career goals, which is tied for second-most with Carolyn Lindsay of South View. Lindsay, who graduated in 2003, went on to play at UNC-Greensboro.
As of the time of publication, the current holder of the record (not included in the NCHSAA record book) is Isabel Pearce from Woods Charter. In 2017, Pearce scored 80 goals in her senior year, setting the record for most goals in a single season at that time. She later played for UNC-Greensboro.
During Garrison’s second year in high school, Wheatmore was crowned NCHSAA 2A champion. The previous year, they were second place. In his first year, which was affected by the pandemic and thus shorter, Garrison scored 29 goals in 12 games. In his sophomore year, he scored 77 goals, followed by 96 goals in the most recent season.
She has been recognized as a first-team all-state player for HSOT on two separate occasions, in 2023 and 2022.
This week, Wheatmore will play two games. They will have a home game against Randleman on Monday and an away game against Eastern Randolph on Wednesday.
