Gatorade has announced that Isaiah Evans, a senior at North Mecklenburg and a recruit for Duke, has been chosen as the best high school boys basketball player in North Carolina.

Evans received the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year in boys basketball on Thursday, marking the first time a player from North Mecklenburg has been chosen for this honor.

Evans, who stands at 6’7″ and weighs 185 pounds, guided North Mecklenburg to a 30-3 overall record and secured a spot in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state playoffs. In the championship game, the Vikings defeated New Hanover, who was previously unbeaten, with a stellar performance from Evans who scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Reworded: Evans has been chosen to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game and will represent Team USA in the Nike Hoop Summit in April. He has also been recognized as a member of the N.C. Basketball Coaches Association All-District Team and is expected to earn additional accolades during the upcoming postseason.

ESPN ranks Evans as the 8th best player in the nation for the Class of 2024.
