Duke legend and 15-year NBA veteran JJ Redick will interview for the Charlotte Hornets head coaching position, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Since his final NBA season playing for the Dallas Mavericks in 2021, Redick has served as an analyst and basketball commentator for ESPN. He also hosts “The Old Man and the Three” podcast.
The Hornets are looking to fill the vacancy left by Steve Clifford, who expects to remain with the franchise as an advisor.
Redick, 39, does not have coaching experience. However, he played for several NBA teams, including:
- 2006-2013: Orlando Magic
- 2013: Milwaukee Bucks
- 2013-2017: Los Angeles Clippers
- 2017-2019: Philadelphia 76ers
- 2019-2021: New Orleans Pelicans
- 2021: Dallas Mavericks
In May 2023, Redick interviewed for the Toronto Raptors head coaching vacancy. The Raptors chose to hire Darko Rajaković.
Redick played from 2002-2006 at Duke.
