Defending champs Providence Day & Weddington top the 704’s preseason rankings
HighSchoolOT has released its preseason football rankings for the 704 area code early to HSOT Insiders.
HSOT has two sets of rankings: a statewide Top 25 and top 15s for each of North Carolina’s six area codes.
Our 704 area code region consists of these counties: Anson, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, Union.
Two defending state champions sit in the top two spots of the 704’s top 15. Providence Day, the defending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I champs, are No. 1. Weddington, the defending N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A champs are No. 2. The two teams will face off on Thursday, Aug. 22 in the Keep Pounding Classic at Bank of America Stadium.
Both the Chargers and the Warriors must replace their outstanding quarterbacks and top receivers. Each team has options that we are excited about in those spots. Providence Day’s new quarterback is junior Zaid Lott, a UNC commit. Weddington has Gregory Fee, a 6-foot-5 passer with a big arm. Providence Day has one of the top recruits in the nation in 5-star left tackle David Sanders. Weddington has a ridiculously talented front seven that features four top 300 national prospects.
The rest of the rankings feature 4A, 3A, and 2A contenders alike.
