DC Landon Allen has been promoted to head football coach by Anson.
The Anson Bearcats have hired their new head football coach.
On Tuesday, it was announced by Anson County schools that Landon Allen has been promoted to the head position. Allen previously served as the team’s assistant coach and was responsible for the defensive coordination under Ralph Jackson.
Earlier this offseason, Jackson left Anson to become the head coach at his alma mater West Stanly High School in Oakboro. Jackson was the head coach at Anson for nine seasons.
Allen is a former student of West Stanly and was born in Oakboro. He completed his education there in 2011. Allen excelled in both football and track & field, being recognized as an All-Rocky River Conference athlete.
Following his graduation from high school, Allen pursued a career in football at Brevard College for six years (2011-2016). During this time, he received recognition for his talents including winning Brevard’s Defensive MVP award in 2014, being named to the Second Team All SAC Conference in 2015, and serving as a Team Captain in both 2015 and 2016.
Anson’s statement commended Allen for his contributions to the program thus far.
“Throughout his time with the Bearcats, he has displayed remarkable qualities of leadership, guidance, and a true devotion to the achievement of our student-athletes. Coach Allen’s path to this role is a tribute to his unwavering determination, enthusiasm, and unwavering loyalty to our school and its sports program. We invite you to join us in celebrating Coach Landon Allen’s promotion, and let us continue to provide support and encouragement for our football program under his leadership,” stated the announcement.
After finishing with a 5-6 record, Anson High School made it to the 2A West playoffs in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association last season.
The Bearcats have participated in two regional finals since the turn of the century. In 2000, they were defeated by Independence in the 4A West final with a score of 30-28. In 2009, Anson was unable to triumph over West Stanly in the 3AA West final.
Anson participates in the 2A/3A Conference of Rocky River.
