Christ School 3-peats NCISAA 4A boys basketball title, Zymicah Wilkins scores 19 in final game

Zymicah Wilkins went out with a bang.

The Christ School senior forward scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift the Greenies to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 4A boys basketball championship on Saturday.

Christ School defeated Carmel Christian by a 73-50 score.

Wilkins, an N.C. State recruit, had all 19 of those points in the first half alone, propelling Christ School (26-2) to its third straight title — the second of which Wilkins has been a part of.

It’s the ninth NCISAA title in program history.

Wilkins was more of a decoy in the second half, setting up his teammates with no-look passes.

His final stat line included five assists and four steals.

Joining him in double-figures was junior Dacen Petty, who had 18 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Freshman Mason Collins added 18 points, and Tyler Jones had six points and seven assists.

Carmel Christian (18-9) trailed just 34-26 at half but fell further behind after three quarters, 56-38.

Bryce Slay, a Marshall recruit, helped the Cougars stay in the game for long stretches with a game-high 25 points.

Chandler Kennedy added nine points and six rebounds in the runner-up effort.
