Chambers clinches victory against Hopewell with a buzzer-beater, maintaining their tied position at the top of the Queen City Athletic Conference.
There are not many simple evenings in the Queen City Athletic Conference.
Another instance was seen on Friday at Chambers.
Jordan Patton’s last-second buzzer-beating putback led the Cougars to a 70-69 victory over Hopewell.
With only 9.4 seconds remaining, Chambers had to swiftly maneuver the ball on the perimeter as Hopewell aggressively defended. Tarris Bouie of the Cougars, who scored 24 points in the game, attempted a long-range shot for the win, but it missed. This allowed Patton to grab the rebound and make a quick basket just before time ran out.
After a quick and intense first quarter, Chambers was ahead 24-19. At halftime, they maintained their lead at 35-26. The game continued to be close in the final quarter, with Chambers leading 55-52.
The Cougars, currently ranked 16th in the most recent statewide rankings by HighSchoolOT, have a record of 9 wins and 4 losses, with a perfect 4-0 in conference play. In the HSOT top 15 for the area code 704, Chambers holds the eighth spot while Hopewell (11-2, 2-2) is ranked 12th.
The Titans have only lost twice, both times by one point to a QCAC opponent. The other loss was against West Charlotte with a final score of 64-63.
Quay Watson, a newly signed player for UNC-Pembroke, scored 21 points in the defeat. Julian Mack, his teammate on the Titans, contributed 17 points.
