Chad Duncan, Masanori Toguchi to be inducted into NCADA Hall of Fame this weekend
Two longtime athletic administrators in North Carolina will be inducted into the N.C. Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame this weekend.
Chad Duncan and Masanori Toguchi will be the newest members of the Hall of Fame.
Both Duncan and Toguchi will be recognized at the NCADA Conference Banquet on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center in Wilmington.
Selection to the NCADA Hall of Fame is a four-step process, including nomination, screening by the Hall of Fame Screening Committee, and rating by the NCADA Executive Committee. The NCADA Board of Directors selects the individuals who are inducted each year.
Duncan and Toguchi will be the 115th and 116th people inducted into the NCADA Hall of Fame.
Chad Duncan
Duncan started his coaching career in 1992 at Bloom-Carroll Hgih School in Ohio, but moved to North Carolina in 1999 when he became an assistant basketball coach for Fred Lynch at Laney High School. Duncan also coahced golf at Laney.
In 2001, Duncan helped open Ashley High School as the head coach of the boys basketball program and the boys golf program. He was later named the assistant athletic director working under Roy Turner.
Duncan moved to Ashbrook High School in 2008 as the boys basketball and golf coach. Ashbrook won two conference cups and had a state runner-up finish in boys basketball under Duncan’s leadership.
Since 2015, Duncan has served as the district athletic director for Gaston County Schools. He is responsible for the athletic programs in the district, as well as driver education and arts programs.
Duncan is a Certified Athletic Administrator and Certified Master Athletic Administrator. He has taught many Leadership Training Institute classes and has chaired the Mentorship Program for new athletic directors. He has served on the NCADA Board of Directors and is currently on the N.C. High School Athletic Association Board of Directors.
In 2016, Duncan was named the NCADA Region 6 Athletic Director of the Year, he received the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association State Award of Merit in 2022 and the President’s Award in 2023. Last year, he was named the winner of the Rusty Lee Professional Development Award.
Duncan graduated from Capital University in 1995 with a degree in Secondary Education.
Masanori Toguchi
Masanori Toguchi has spent his entire career in education in Mecklenburg County, where he started as a wrestling and football coach at Harding University High School.
In 2007, Toguchi was named the athletic director at West Charlotte High School. He was hired to open the new Hough High School in 2010.
Toguchi spent 11 years as the athletic director at Hough, where he built a successful athletic department. While in the role, he began working with the N.C. Athletic Directors Association and was involved with high school sports at the national level.
After earning his Certified Athletic Administrator and Certified Master Athletic Administrator certifications, Toguchi started teaching courses for the NCADA.
Toguchi’s involvement in the NCADA includes serving as the Region 6 representative, the secretary of the NCADA, and two terms as the president of the NCADA. He also served three years on the N.C. High School Athletic Association Board of Directors.
Toguchi has been a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association since 2007, taking 31 NIAAA Leadership Training courses and two NIAAA University Cohorts in Executive Leadership and Mentoring during that time.
Over the years, Toguchi has earned numerous awards including the NCADA Region 6 Athletic Director of the Year, the NCADA President’s Award, the NCADA Leadership of Merit Award, and the Rusty Lee Professional Development Award.
The NCHSAA has awarded Toguchi the Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Award and the Dave Harris Athletic Director of the Year Award.
Nationally, Toguchi was recognized with the NIAAA Distinguished Service Award for North Carolina and the NIAAA State Award of Merit.
