Carolina Panthers release Jadeveon Clowney, put Jonathon Brooks on PUP list :: WRALSportsFan.com

The Carolina Panthers announced Thursday they’re releasing three-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.
Clowney was due to count about $13.78 million against the 2025 salary cap space in the second of a two-year deal worth $20 million.
The 32-year-old Clowney tied for the team high here with 5.5 sacks last season. The total was down from the 2023 season, in which Clowney posted 9.5 sacks for the Baltimore Ravens.
Carolina signed Pat Jones II in the offseason. Jones had a career-best seven sacks with one start in 2024 for the Minesota Vikings. Plus, the Panthers selected Texas A&m’s Nic Courton and Ole Miss’ Princely Umanmielen in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Panthers acquired Clowney in March 2024, giving the Rock Hill, South Carolina, native and former No. 1 overall pick a chance to play for his hometown team.
Clowney’s release was one of several moves the Panthers made on Thursday.
The Panthers placed running back Jonathon Brooks on the physically unable to perform list. Brooks tore his ACL during Week 14 of the 2024 season. He will miss the entire 2025 season.
It marks Brooks’ second ACL tear in as many years.
The Panther also waived basketball to tight end convert Colin Granger due to an injury. Carolina also released veteran tight end Jordan Matthews.
