Cardinal Gibbons girls soccer opens season with 7-0 win over Jordan
Cardinal Gibbons opened the girls soccer season on a fast note.
The Crusaders not only scored in the first two minutes of the season opener, they rolled to a 7-0 shutout win over Jordan.
In the 2nd minute, Kate Sheehan scored the first goal of the season for the Crusaders, giving the team an early 1-0 lead. Then in the 3rd minute, Sophia Juhasz connected with Charlotte Fusco for another goal to make it 2-0.
The two-goal lead stood for much of the half, despite Cardinal Gibbons dominating possession.
However, just before halftime, Juhasz scored a goal of her own to give the Crusaders a 3-0 lead at the break.
Cardinal Gibbons scored four more goals in the second half. Sheehan got a second goal, while Caroline Robbins, Victoria Burgess, and Leah Condron also scored.
Juhasz recorded two assists in the match. Burgess and Clara Dryden each had one assist.
Although the keepers weren’t tested much on Wednesday night, Alyssa Lane started in goal and Maria Salcedo finished the night as the two combined for the clean sheet shutout.
Cardinal Gibbons (1-0) returns to action on Monday when it travels to Millbrook for a non-conference game. Jordan (1-1) returns home on Friday for a non-conference game with Apex Friendship.
