Canes sign Frederik Andersen to 1-year extension :: WRALSportsFan.com

The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to extend the contract of goaltender Frederik Andersen.
The deal is for one year and $2.75 million with performance bonuses for playing a certain number of games.
In July 2023, Andersen signed a 2-year, 6.8 million contract. He’s struggled with availability since then, including dealing with a scary blood clotting issue for much of the 2023-2024 season.
Entering the second round of the playoffs, he’s battling another problem after colliding with New Jersey’s Timo Meier in Game 4 of the first-round series. Andersen returned to practice with the team on Friday, five days after leaving Game 4 against the Devils with an undisclosed injury. Pyotr Kochetkov started Game 5 in net, help the Canes to a series-clinching, double overtime win. Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal against the Washington Capitals is Tuesday.
The 35-year-old has been with the Canes since the 2021-2022 season. He’s missed much of the last two regular seasons, only playing in 38 games. In November, Andersen suffered an injury that required knee surgery, forcing him to miss another big chunk of time.
Andersen can earn a performance bonus for playing at least 35 games ($250,000), at least 40 games ($250,000) and if the Hurricanes reach the conference finals with him playing at least half of the club’s playoff games ($250,000).
“Frederik has played extremely well for us and ranks in the top 10 all-time for winning percentage by an NHL goalie. We’re excited that he will be staying with the team for next season,” said Hurricanes general manager Tulsky.
On Wednesday, Taylor Hall, who came to Carolina through the Mikko Rantanen trade in January, agreed to a three-year extension worth $9.5 million.
