The Piedmont Triad Athletic Conference, part of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association, is known for its challenging basketball competition within the state. Friday night’s game is a prime example of this.
In a closely fought match, No. 23 Forsyth Country Day managed to secure a victory over Caldwell Academy with a final score of 79-74.
The Furies currently hold a half-game lead in the seven-team league, with a record of 17-4 and 4 wins out of 5 games. The league also includes powerful teams such as High Point Christian (17-2), Wesleyan Christian (14-6), Greensboro Day (17-7), and perennial contenders Calvary Day (11-10) and Westchester Country Day (7-10).
Additionally, Caldwell Academy.
The Eagles, with a record of 15 wins and 6 losses overall and 3 wins and 2 losses in their conference, had the opportunity to take the lead in the standings. At halftime, the score was 39-38 with Caldwell in the lead, in front of a packed crowd where some spectators were standing on the opposite side of the court from the team bench and along the baselines.
Similar to most teams in their league, both squads are guided by Division I prospects and recruits. Forsyth Country Day boasts two seniors with D1 potential – long and lean forward Bobby Cannon (New Orleans) and defensive-oriented wing Iverson King (Presbyterian) – as well as post player Draven Pilson, who has pledged to play for Division II Emory & Henry.
Caldwell Academy’s top scorer is junior Jaylen Cross, who boasts nine offers at present. Sophomore point guard Ayden Johnson, a 5-foot-9 lefty, was exception for the Eagles from 3-point territory.
