Bulls fall to Knights 12-11 in series opener :: WRALSportsFan.com
Despite four home runs, the Durham Bulls fell to the Charlotte Knights 12-11 in 10 innings in the series opener on Tuesday night at Truist Field.
Rene Pinto and Junior Caminero each homered, while Ruben Cardenas and Yu Chang went back-to-back for the second time in a week, but the Bulls (16-24) couldn’t hold four separate leads as Charlotte (16-23) took the season’s first meeting.
The Knights trailed by one, five, three and two, rallying to tie each time, but never taking the lead until Colson Montgomery scampered home with one out in the bottom of the 10th to win it.
Caminero, Cardenas and Chang each collected three of Durham’s 17 hits. Ronny Simon, Jake Mangum and Pinto had two apiece.
Enmanuel Mejia (L, 1-1) absorbed the extra inning loss, permitting an unearned run in the 10th to end the 3-hour, 27-minute game.
Joe Rock (1-1, 4.35) is slated to start the series’ second game on Wednesday night against Nick Nastrini (0-3, 5.79) at 6:35 PM ET.
The Bulls return home Tuesday, May 21 against the Memphis Redbirds.
