Brackets set for first girls flag football playoff in NC
For the first time ever, schools across the state will participate in a postseason playoff in girls flag football.
A total of 41 teams will participate in the unofficial state playoff, with schools as far west as Union County and as far east as Wilmington making up the bracket.
Girls flag football is not a sanctioned sport in North Carolina, so the playoff will not be recognized as a N.C. High School Athletic Association state championship. However, the NCHSAA Board of Directors will discuss a proposal to sanction the sport at its board meeting next month.
The first two rounds of the playoffs will be played on Nov. 20, with the third and fourth rounds on Dec. 4. Multiple teams will play at each location on those days.
The semifinals and championship will be played at Durham County Memorial Stadium on Dec. 7.
Host schools for the first two rounds include:
- Ashley
- Enloe
- Forest Hills
- Heritage
- Holly Springs
- Jordan
- South Johnston
- Willow Spring
