Bishop McGuinness’s boys’ team showed off their depth and efficiency in an impressive win against Cornerstone.
Eleven players on the court each scored five or more points. Ten three-pointers were made and six dunks were scored, leading Bishop McGuinness’ boys basketball team to a dominant 92-15 victory over Cornerstone Charter.
The Villains’ control was an impressive display of offense. Their swift and effective passing kept the Cardinal defense on their toes throughout the entire game. Anytime a scoring opportunity arose, it was highly likely to result in a basket, particularly during their impressive 61-point first half.
In the first quarter, Bishop McGuinness dominated with five three-point shots, leading to a 32-point lead. Cornerstone did not score until later, when Bishop McGuinness was already ahead 19-0.
In the first quarter, Nicholas Graves scored eight points and led the Villains during the initial period.
Cal Barrett and John Campbell asserted their dominance from the wing with a combined 18 points in limited first half minutes. The duo also managed to hammer home three dunks in the second half to send the home side into the break with a 50-point advantage.
After everything was said and done, Alex Waterfield was the top scorer with 15 points. As a junior, he made three 3-pointers in the first half and even with a running clock in the second half, he still scored three more times in the fourth quarter. This even included a dunk at the end that got the home crowd cheering.
Campbell and Thomas Thompson both grabbed five rebounds each on the glass.
On Friday, Cornerstone will travel to face NC Leadership Academy. The Cardinals currently have a record of 2-5.
Bishop McGuinness will be away at Millenium for their game on Friday night. The Villains currently have an impeccable record of 4-0.
