Two major sports betting companies will now be able to operate in North Carolina thanks to partnerships with Charlotte Motor Speedway and NASCAR.

BetMGM has reached a partnership with Charlotte Motor Speedway located in Concord, while Draft Kings has entered into an agreement with NASCAR.

BetMGM and Draft Kings applied for sports operator licenses through the North Carolina Lottery Commission. Both met the Dec. 27 deadline that would allow them to take wagers on the state’s yet to be determined go-live date if they are approved for licenses.

For sports betting businesses to receive a license in North Carolina, they must have a written agreement with specific professional teams, venues, or leagues. A modification to the state’s betting legislation mandating these agreements was added to the budget approved by legislators during the autumn season.

According to Greg Walter, the executive vice president and general manager of CMS, BetMGM has become a leading provider of sports betting due to its partnerships with all major league sports and various venues throughout the nation. Given Charlotte Motor Speedway’s track record of innovation, they are excited to embrace the modern era of sports entertainment by offering a cutting-edge sportsbook.

Seven businesses submitted applications for operator permits. Six collaborations involving teams, leagues, or venues have been disclosed or mentioned.

The Carolina Panthers, Charlotte FC, NC Courage, and Sedgefield Country Club are eligible to enter into written agreements with sports betting companies, which will allow them to obtain a license, in accordance with the law.

The commission announced that mobile sports betting will not start in North Carolina in time for the Super Bowl on Feb. 11. However, there is a possibility that it will launch in March.

“According to Greg Walter, the executive vice president and general manager of CMS, BetMGM has become a prominent provider of sports betting, forming partnerships in all major league sports and with various venues nationwide. As Charlotte Motor Speedway has a history of innovation, they are excited to embrace this new era of sports entertainment by collaborating with a progressive sportsbook.”

As of now, DraftKings is active in 25 states and intends to launch in Vermont on January 11th.

“Matt Kalish, president of DraftKings North America, expressed excitement for the continued partnership between DraftKings and NASCAR. Both parties share a passion for improving the fan experience, making this collaboration a natural fit. Looking ahead, we are eager to bring our top-notch mobile sportsbook to fans in North Carolina.”
