Bear Bradley departs Trinity football program for assistant job at Grimsley
Trinity High School in Randolph County is looking for a new head football coach.
Jason “Bear” Bradley confirmed with HighSchoolOT that he has departed the program. Bradley has accepted a role at defending N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A champion Grimsley High School. His role on Darryl Brown’s staff is currently undetermined. Bradley xpects to fit in well with the coordinators on the staff, whom he is already knows well. He is also familiar with Grimsley athletic director Evan Fancourt.
The coach will start at Grimsley on March 2. He is a former offensive lineman for the University of North Carolina and Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, NC.
Bradley took over the Trinity program ahead of the 2023 season. His son Noah, the quarterback, is set to graduate this spring.
Trinity’s first season under Bradley resulted in a 5-6 overall finish and an appearance in the NCHSAA playoffs for the first time in four years. The Bulldogs fell on the road at Brevard in the first round.
The 2024 season saw a worse record at 3-7 overall, but the Bulldogs arguably made equal progress to the prior year. Trinity lost in a one-point game to West Davidson, a three-point game to rival Wheatmore, and in a seven-point game to Union Academy in non-conference.
Bradley’s best win as the coach at Trinity came in week 10 of 2024 as the Bulldogs knocked off nine-win Randleman on the road.
His coaching career has also taken him to jobs at Wheatmore, Randleman, and Southern Guilford. He was a head coach at Wheatmore and Southern Guilford. He is 43-74 overall as a head coach.
Trinity is beginning the process to find a new head coach immediately and wants to move quickly.
With an average daily membership of 673 students this school year, Trinity is set to become a 3A program once the NCHSAA officially realigns into eight classifications later this year.
In the second draft of the proposed new conferences for the NCHSAA, Trinity was placed in a 3A-only conference with East and West Davidson High Schools, Thomasville High, and a couple of Trinity’s Randolph County rivals in Providence Grove and Wheatmore.
