Athens Drive rallies to beat Rolesville in 11 innings
After falling behind 4-0, Athens Drive rallied to force extra innings against Rolesville on Saturday afternoon before winning in walk-off fashion in the 11th inning.
With two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning, Paul Harrell hit a triple to get in scoring position. Then with an 0-2 count, Shota Sharman hit a ground ball single to allow Harrell to score.
Athens Drive walked off with a 5-4 win in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Rolesville took a 4-0 lead after two innings. Logan Daniel stole home in the first inning to give the Rams a 1-0 lead through one.
In the second inning, Eli Kamm scored on an error by the Jaguars’ catcher. Then with two outs, Marvin Quintero doubled on a fly ball to right field allowing Jordan Wiggins to score.
The last run for the Rams came when Carter DeSilva hit a line drive single to bring Quintero home.
Rolesville’s 4-0 lead held until the bottom of the sixth inning when Athens Drive got within one run. A Sharman triple scored Owen Eduy and Anderson Hanes. Then Sharman made it home on a Gavin O’Brien single.
Athens Drive entered the bottom of the sventh inning needing one run to tie. That run came from Harrell who crossed the plate after Hanes hit a singl eon a line drive to left field.
In extras, neither team scored until Sharman’s single brought Harrell home to give the Jaguars the walk-off win.
Saturday’s game was the second straight game Athens Drive has played that went to extra innings. The Jaguars beat Green Level 12-2 in eight innings on Thursday — another come-from-behind win for Athens Drive, which is now 5-1 on the season.
Athens Drive returns to action on Monday when it hosts Garner at 4 p.m.
Rolesville drops to 2-3 on the season with Saturday’s loss. The Rams will play again on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Broughton.
