As the state postseason competition approaches, here is a list of the top 14 pound-for-pound male wrestlers.

The high school wrestling regular season concludes this week, with the N.C. High School Athletic Association individual championships taking place in about a month to fully wrap up the season.

Looking ahead to the upcoming individual championships, we examine 14 of the top wrestlers in the state based on their current performance and past track record.

As a senior, Charleston Baglio from Central Cabarrus has a record of 32-0 in the 138-pound weight class.

As a first-year and third-year student, the senior achieved championship victories and is now aiming for a third title this year. He is the sole wrestler in the state to defeat Bentley Sly and has triumphed in two overtime matches against Kevin O’Brien from West Rowan.

As a sophomore, Lorenzo Alston from Uwharrie Charter has a record of 36 wins and 0 losses, weighing in at 150 pounds.

Alston is on track to win their second consecutive 1A championship. They have already beaten well-known competitors Dylan Pepin from Northwest Guilford and Donovan Edwards from Southwest Guilford, both with only one loss.

Cameron Stinson from Mallard Creek High School had a perfect record of 53 wins and 0 losses in his senior year, competing in the 126-pound weight class.

What other comments do you have? He has never been defeated. 194 wins and 0 losses. However, there is much more to say, which is why we recommend reading our feature on him.

As a sophomore, Bentley Sly from Stuart Cramer High School had a record of 43 wins and 1 loss in the 132-pound weight class.

Last year, Sly achieved the 120-pound 3A championship with an overall record of 51-3. Despite losing to Baglio, he remains the sole wrestler to beat Liam Hickey from Cardinal Gibbons, earning him a spot in the tournament.

As a junior, Colton Campbell from Hickory Ridge had a record of 47-0 at 165 pounds.

Last year’s 4A championship saw Campbell place fifth with a total of 60 wins. He remains unbeaten, having secured two significant victories against Brayden Mejia from Fred T. Foard. These are the only losses Mejia has suffered this year.

As a senior, Kage Williams from Robbinsville has a record of 28 wins and 0 losses, weighing in at 190 pounds.

In the span of three years, he has won three state championships. The only time he did not win was in a tournament when he sustained an injury in the previous round and was unable to continue (if the same situation occurred this year, he would not have been recorded as losing).

Jackson Buck, Lumberton (190 pounds) 45-0 as a senior

Buck moved up from third place to second place in the state last year and has achieved a record of 143 wins and 4 losses in the past three years.

R.J. James, a senior from Reidsville, has an undefeated record of 29-0 in the 132 pound weight class.

In his second year as a freshman, the back-to-back state champion is demonstrating that he has the potential to win a third consecutive title.

Hunter Testa, a senior at Davie County, has a perfect record of 30-0 and weighs 175 pounds.

In the past three years, Testa has achieved a record of 112 wins and 4 losses. Despite placing third two years in a row, he has accumulated 21 pins in 30 victories.

As a junior, Bray Trivette of North Iredell had a perfect record of 40 wins and 0 losses, weighing in at 150 pounds.

Trivette has not been defeated since coming in second place in the 3A championship as a first-year student, and currently holds a career record of 126-2. He is striving for another perfect season.

Cael Dunn from Avery County had an undefeated record of 47 wins and 0 losses during his sophomore year, weighing in at 175 pounds.

The current 1A champion has achieved 47 victories this year, with only one minor decision and one major decision.

As a senior, Landon Sargent from Cape Fear had a record of 33 wins and 0 losses, weighing in at 215 pounds.

Sargent, who was a state runner-up last year, has achieved 28 pins, four forfeits, and one decision in 33 matches so far this year.

Jaylen Bethea from Hoke County had an impressive record of 47 wins and 0 losses in his junior year, competing in the 132-pound weight class.

This is an amazing story! In his first year, he had a record of 23 wins and 21 losses. However, he worked hard and in his second year, he improved to a record of 30 wins and only 4 losses. Currently, he has an impressive undefeated record of 47 wins with 31 pins.

As a senior, Trevor Freeman achieved a record of 36 wins and 0 losses while representing A.L. Brown High School in the 120 pound weight class.

In his first year, he placed second. In his second year, he placed third. He achieved the title of state champion in the 113-pound weight class last year.
