After one season serving as the head football coach, Greg Lloyd has departed from Starmount.

After a single year as the head football coach at Starmount High School in Yadkin County, Greg Lloyd has resigned from his position. Deana King, from NCPreps.com, reported that Lloyd attributed his departure to family obligations. In his short tenure in Boonville, he guided the Rams to an impressive 10-2 record.

During his time as a head coach in North Carolina, Lloyd gained recognition for his leadership at Kings Mountain High School in Cleveland County for 16 years and later at East Gaston High School for two years. Under Lloyd’s guidance, Kings Mountain had a successful record for nine consecutive seasons. With a total of 159 wins and 82 losses, Lloyd’s overall record as a head coach is impressive.

Under the leadership of Lloyd, Starmount achieved an average score of 41 points per game while limiting their opponents to an average of 17.8 points per game. However, the Rams’ season came to an end in the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 1A West playoffs with a loss to Mountain Heritage on the road.

Starmount participates in the Northwest 1A Conference and has achieved several successes. They won a state championship and were the runner-up in another. In 1998, Starmount emerged victorious in the NCHSAA’s 1A championship against North Edgecombe, with a final score of 22-20. In 2014, they faced a defeat in the 1AA championship against Wallace-Rose Hill, with a score of 34-21.
