Russell Wilson will be joining the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A source familiar with the situation informed The Associated Press on Sunday night that the veteran quarterback, who has been selected for the Pro Bowl nine times, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Steelers.

According to an unidentified source, who requested to remain anonymous due to the contract not being fully secured, Wilson will be given the veteran minimum of $1.21 million while the remaining $39 million of his salary will be covered by the Denver Broncos.

Wilson shared his Year 13 plans on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, stating: “Grateful. (at)Steelers.”

Wilson, who is 35 years old, had a two-season record of 11-19 with the Broncos after being obtained in a trade from Seattle. Despite a disappointing performance in the 2022 season, he improved in the following season with 3,070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions. However, he was ultimately replaced by Jarrett Stidham after finishing with a record of 7-8 in coach Sean Payton’s first year with the team.

In a span of 10 years with the Seahawks, Wilson successfully led Seattle to eight playoff appearances and a championship victory in the Super Bowl.

The Steelers lost a wild-card playoff game with Mason Rudolph as their starting quarterback. Rudolph went 3-0 after replacing Kenny Pickett, who was 7-5 before going down with an injury. Mitch Trubisky started the other two games and went 0-2.

The upcoming season may see Pittsburgh facing off against the Broncos in Denver, potentially bringing Wilson back to the game. The NFL is set to announce the official league schedule in May.

The Broncos notified Wilson that they will release him when the new league year starts on Wednesday, but also allowed him to communicate with other teams.

Wilson refused to modify his contract and proceeded to participate in seven additional games before being replaced, according to Payton’s explanation, which cited football strategy rather than financial motives.
