According to a report, the Panthers have made a deal to acquire Diontae Johnson, a wide receiver from the Steelers, on WRALSportsFan.com.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Carolina Panthers have acquired wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers through a trade.
According to Schefter, the Carolina Panthers will now be paying Diontae Johnson a $3 million roster bonus on Friday.
The Steelers will also give the Panthers a seventh-round draft pick.
The Panthers are giving the Steelers a sixth-round pick and cornerback Donte Jackson in exchange.
Bryce Young, in his second year as quarterback, can rely on Johnson, 27, as a valuable target for offensive plays.
Johnson’s current contract will end in the 2024 season. During the 2023 season, he had successful stats with 51 catches, 87 target attempts, and 717 yards, resulting in five touchdowns in 13 games played. He was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2021 and has played for the Steelers since 2019.
During the 2023 season, Jackson, who is 28 years old, appeared in 16 games and recorded a total of 59 tackles, one forced fumble, and five pass deflections. However, due to injuries, Jackson only played in nine games in 2022 and 12 games in 2021.
The Steelers released Patrick Peterson earlier this offseason, leaving a gap in the cornerback position. Levi Wallace is also currently a free agent.
